We'll be making a 'Daisy Tote' for our workshop in June this year.
We've put a kit together which makes it incredibly easy, but you may have fabric and other materials in your stash that you can use instead. That said, the hana fukin H-2056 (navy diagonal dot grid) is essential for this project. The kits will be held for you to collect at the workshop (one less thing to carry!!)
The kit contains
- H-2056 hana fukin x 1
- ST-115 100m sashiko thread
- ST-154 x 2 strands sashiko thread
- ST-303 x 20 strands sashiko thread
- BT-302 Bag tape Navy #41. 2 x 24" (or one 48" piece)
- Sashiko needles
- 5" square navy tsumugi for yuza sashiko
- 5" x 4" stitched fabric
- 4" square navy tsumugi dot grid
- 5" square navy tsumugi (TS-2008) for background
- Chaco paper for transferring patterns
- Fabric pieces to make up bag
- Instructions
The kit does not contain interfacing, lining or a thimble.
If you want to put your own kit together, the fabric requirements are:
- H-2056 hana fukin x 1
- 5" square navy tsumugi (or any navy fabric) for yuza sashiko
- Fabric for tree
- 4" square navy tsumugi dot grid
- 5" square navy tsumugi (or any navy fabric) for kuguri-zashi block
- Assortment of fabrics for patches, predominantly blue
You will also need 40cm wide piece of fabric for lining and iron on interfacing, bag tape, and threads.
You will also need some general sewing supplies:
- A good pair of sharp scissors
- Quilters square ruler (approx 12½ " is very useful)
- Cutting mat
- Rotary cutter
- Ballpoint pen
- Sashiko needles
- 100m of off-white thread (we're using ST-115 in the kit) and other threads from your collection
- Sashiko thimble if required
- Sticky tape
- Chaco paper for transferring patterns
- Fine line washout marking pen
- Pins
- 2½" circle template if you have one
- 2 x 24" lengths of bag tape (30mm wide is used in the sample)
